CONROVERSIAL Sakubva granny, Sophia Masikuka (51), popularly known in the sprawling suburb as Mbuya Sauti, was at it again on Monday when she was found in possession of 20 mobile phones stolen from a local shop.

More than 50 mobile handsets, 73 memory cards, cellphone chargers, as well as 70 Telecel lines were stolen after a break-in at Trethem Phone Shop at Sakubva Bus Terminus on Sunday evening.

Stewart Gore (18), popularly known as Gweja in Sakubva, has since been arrested in connection with the theft, while his accomplice only identified as Rojas is still at large.

The two are believed to have left part of the loot with Mbuya Sauti for safekeeping.

Mbuya Sauti, who owns an infamous brothel in Sakubva, is now in police custody assisting them with investigations together with Gore. Manicaland Police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri, confirmed the incident.

Insp Chishiri appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of Rojas to contact Chisamba Police Station or their nearest police station.

"More than 50 phones were stolen from a Trethem Phone Shop at Sakubva Bus Terminus on Sunday evening. Police launched a manhunt for the culprits and one of the suspects, Stewart Gore, sold a handset to one of our informants leading to his arrest.

"However, it was also discovered during the course of the investigations that Mbuya Sauti had bought five of the cellphone at giveaway prices, ranging from $10 to $20. She was also left in custody of the remaining loot," said Insp Chishiri.
